About Ürümqi
Ürümqi is the capital and largest city of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwestern China. It is the second-largest city in China's northwestern interior after Xi'an. It is located to the west of the Tian Shan mountain ranges, and far away from other major cities in China. Ürümqi has an estimated population of over 4.5 million people, made up of predominantly Han Chinese, but it also has one of the largest Uyghur populations in China. For much of its history, Ürümqi was ruled and occupied to various extents by various Chinese dynasties, and the Uyghur people.
